Harriman Personal Log - Re: Personal Leave to Starfleet Academy on Bajor

After returning to Deep Space Nine, I had some time granted for personal leave. I decided that I would go to the academy on Bajor and do some study on warp theories. I arrived at the academy and threw myself into studying and practicing for the contest, should I make it back in time. I created as many different problems that I could think up that would come about in the Badlands area. Between study and practice, I didn't sleep much...

As I was taking a lunch break, I noticed someone familiar coming up to me.... After a second glance, it was Ian Brooks, from my first years at the academy in San Francisco! We talked for hours.....He was impressed with some of the piloting I have done, but he also wondered about the incident that led to my dismissal. It was this that he expressed a lot of concern with my drinking. I switched the subject quickly to my studies of warp theory, astrophysics, and practicing at the helm.... Ian kept trying to get me to talk about my dismissal and such, but I never did go back to that... It's not something I want to think about.

I found out that Ian is also a Lt Commander, but was hopeful to be a Commander soon. He still was an incredible pilot and he helped me on my studies...Just like old times. He was pretty hard on me, giving me tests about what I was studying. It reminded me of the teachers back at San Francisco. He even helped me with learning my duties while being on the bridge. With this time spent with Ian, I found myself attracted to him more than ever, but had a guilty feeling anytime I was with him.... I wonder if I just miss Darby?

After spending this time with Ian and "rededicating" myself to my skills, I feel invigorated to get back to the ship and my friends....Heck, I even miss Captain Albright!

Diplomatic Mission to Empok Nor

The USS Challenger was sent to the New Dominion Front. Captain Redding, Lt Stout and Lt Ro from the USS Yorktown were aboard our ship, with Captain Redding in-charge. We were sent to Empok Nor on a diplomatic mission. Great.... I spent 1000 credits for the race to the Badlands and back...I would have competed against Tom Paris... and now, not only do I not get to compete against Paris, but my 1000 credits are gone!!!

I'm not too sure of Captain Redding at this point. He seems like he's a very "by-the-book" captain. Lt Ro seems to be a little like Foster, probably a good pilot, just in need of more experience. Perhaps the holodeck programs that I had designed in helping me train for the contest would allow me to see if he's as good as he says he is. Foster did design them with Paris in mind...HMMM I'm not sure about Lt Stout, as he's pretty quiet. He seems to carry a very serious face all the time and doesn't stray far from Captain Redding.

I am continuing to serve on the bridge, but not at helm. Lt Ro was assigned the helm by Captain Redding. Lt Ro determined that the helm was set up inefficiently and proceeded to rearrange things. I really don't mind Lt Ro changing things to suit his taste or needs, pilots do have their ways of doing things. But when he continued to mock how it was set up...I had a problem with it. Both Captain Albright and Captain Redding were on the bridge at this time. Captain Redding advised Captain Albright that I attend counseling and Captain
Albright did NOT support me in anyway. I'm not sure who I'm more upset with, if it's Captain Redding, Lt Ro, or ACTING Captain Albright.

Once arriving at the Pathways Station, Captain Redding assigned Captain Albright, Commander Gav, Commander Saunders, Lt Ro, Lt Stout, and myself to board the station with him. We were greeted and shown the station. We met Mr Damon Melk, who continued to stare at
me, and I questioned him on this. He explained that women are rare here and when they are here, they usually do not have clothes on. I was stunned and then continued on with the tour.....but a little closer to my group.

Mr Ro is persistent on challenging me, even during our diplomatic talks. I suppose he wants to show off.... HMMMMMMM, I kinda like that. I'll have to see what he can do at the helm, see if he can handle the Picard Manuever... Confidence is good to have at the helm
though...I'm glad to see he has some balls.

We met with Tara Albright, Namin Bell, Weyoun, Mr Glin, and Mr Stone during out diplomatic talks. Captain Redding seemed to be good at this. I liked the way he asked for our input. He assigned Mr Stout and I to stay on the station, posing as "honeymooners." I will do
this, but I'm not entirely pleased with leaving the Challenger in the hands of Lt Ro, until I've had a chance to evaluate his skills. Unfortunately, I'm not in a position to defer.

I asked Mr Stout if he would like to return to the Challenger to get some things for our stay, and he refused. I returned, to get a few things as well as to report to Captain Redding and find out exactly what he wanted us to do... I knew he wanted us to keep an eye out, but if there were any specifics... Mr Stout had a confrontation while I was gone and found an individual planting a demolition of some sort on the station. Mr Stout detained the individual and reported to Capt Redding. The device was finally transported out to
space. The individual was taken to security on the station, with Mr Stout present during questioning.

Through the diplomatic talks, a treaty was agreed upon by the end of the week. It'll be good to return to the station. I need to figure out how to get out of these "counseling sessions." I'm anxious for Captain Redding and his crew to leave... I think I'll go visit
Darby. I wonder if he's ready to take our relationship to the next level....
